When was the last time you truly slowed down?

In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, Pause. Create. Reflect. invites you to step away from the rush and reconnect with yourself through the calming process of working with clay.

Over two sessions, participants will create two meaningful handmade pieces using air-dry clay: a functional wall clock and a personalized clay letter.

During the first session, participants will learn the fundamentals of shaping, sculpting, and smoothing clay before designing both pieces and preparing them to dry naturally. In the second session, they will return to paint, decorate, varnish, and assemble the clock mechanism, adding the final touches to their creations.

More than a clay workshop, this experience is an invitation to enjoy the process, embrace imperfections, and create with intention. Participants will leave with two personal handmade pieces and a renewed appreciation for slowing down and making time for themselves.

Workshop Structure

Day One – Pause & Create

• Welcome and introduction to the workshop concept
• Introduction to tools, materials, and air-dry clay
• Demonstration of shaping and sculpting techniques
• Designing and sculpting the clay wall clock
• Designing and sculpting the personalized clay letter
• Smoothing and refining both pieces
• Preparing the artwork for natural drying

Day Two – Reflect & Finish

• Painting the clay wall clock
• Painting the personalized clay letter
• Adding decorative details with acrylic paint pens
• Applying a protective varnish
• Installing the clock mechanism and hands
• Adding the final finishing touches
• Reflection, artwork showcase, photographs, and Q&A

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Learn the fundamentals of working with air-dry clay
• Understand shaping, sculpting, smoothing, and finishing techniques
• Learn how to design both functional and decorative clay pieces
• Explore painting, detailing, and varnishing methods
• Understand how to assemble and install a working clock mechanism
• Build confidence in creating handmade art independently
• Experience mindful creativity and intentional making

Workshop Outcomes

Each participant will complete and take home:

• One handmade functional clay wall clock
• One personalized decorative clay letter

Participants will also gain practical clay-making skills, greater creative confidence, and a deeper appreciation for slowing down and enjoying the process of making by hand.

About the Facilitator

Yusra Omar is a multidisciplinary artist and creative workshop facilitator interested in transforming everyday materials into meaningful handmade experiences. Her practice focuses on functional clay art, Islamic-inspired creativity, and mindful making.

Through welcoming and beginner-friendly workshops, Yusra creates spaces where participants can slow down, explore their creativity, and leave with both a handmade piece and a memorable artistic experience.

في عالم يدفعنا باستمرار إلى التحرك بسرعة تدعوك ورشة توقّف. اصنع. تأمّل. إلى الابتعاد قليلًا عن العجلة، والعودة إلى نفسك من خلال تجربة هادئة وواعية مع الطين.

على مدى جلستين، يصنع المشاركون قطعتين تحملان معنى شخصيًا باستخدام الطين الهوائي: ساعة جدارية عملية، وحرفًا طينيًا مخصصًا.

في الجلسة الأولى، يتعرّف المشاركون على أساسيات تشكيل الطين ونحته وتنعيمه، ثم يصممون القطعتين ويجهزونهما لتجفا طبيعيًا. وفي الجلسة الثانية، يعودون لتلوين القطع وتزيينها وإضافة طبقة الحماية، ثم تركيب آلية الساعة ووضع اللمسات النهائية.

أكثر من مجرد ورشة طين، تأتي هذه التجربة كدعوة للاستمتاع برحلة الصنع، وتقبّل التفاصيل غير المثالية، والعمل بنية وهدوء. يغادر المشاركون بقطعتين شخصيتين مصنوعتين باليد، وتقدير متجدد لقيمة التمهّل وتخصيص وقت لأنفسهم.

التعرّف على الأدوات والخامات والطين الهوائي
شرح عملي لتقنيات التشكيل والنحت
تصميم الساعة الجدارية الطينية وتشكيلها
تصميم الحرف الطيني الشخصي وتشكيله
تنعيم القطعتين وتحسين التفاصيل
تجهيز الأعمال لتجف طبيعيًا

اليوم الثاني – تأمّل وأنهِ

تلوين الساعة الطينية
تلوين الحرف الطيني الشخصي
إضافة التفاصيل الزخرفية باستخدام أقلام الأكريليك
وضع طبقة الورنيش الواقية
تركيب آلية الساعة وعقاربها
إضافة اللمسات النهائية
التأمل في التجربة، وعرض الأعمال، والتصوير، والإجابة عن الأسئلة

الأهداف التعليمية

بنهاية الورشة، سيتمكن المشاركون من:

تعلّم أساسيات العمل بالطين الهوائي
فهم تقنيات التشكيل والنحت والتنعيم والتشطيب
تعلّم تصميم قطع طينية عملية وزخرفية
استكشاف أساليب التلوين وإضافة التفاصيل والورنيش
فهم طريقة تركيب آلية ساعة تعمل بشكل كامل
اكتساب الثقة في صنع أعمال يدوية بشكل مستقل
اختبار أثر الإبداع الواعي والصنع بنية

مخرجات الورشة

يصنع كل مشارك ويأخذ معه:

ساعة جدارية طينية عملية مصنوعة باليد
حرفًا طينيًا زخرفيًا ومخصصًا

كما يكتسب المشاركون مهارات عملية في تشكيل الطين، وثقة أكبر في قدراتهم الإبداعية، وتقديرًا أعمق لقيمة التمهّل والاستمتاع برحلة الصنع باليد.

عن مقدمة الورشة

يسرى عمر فنانة متعددة التخصصات ومدربة ورش إبداعية، تهتم بتحويل الخامات اليومية إلى تجارب يدوية تحمل معنى. يركّز أسلوبها على فن الطين العملي، والإبداع المستلهم من الفنون الإسلامية، والصنع الواعي.

من خلال ورش مرحّبة ومناسبة للمبتدئين، تصنع يسرى مساحة تتيح للمشاركين التمهّل واستكشاف إبداعهم، والخروج بقطعة مصنوعة باليد وتجربة فنية تبقى في الذاكرة.
